South Padre Island,Texas

We packed up the "kids" and took off Tuesday morning for SPI.
Interesting drive to be sure as for the longest while out of Mission,
it is just one town after another.
Kind of like driving from Victoria to Nanaimo..
only not as clean or pretty.

Lee missed the exit and we went on to Brownsville, as we had never been there it was not a big deal. Dirty place and not at all somewhere I wanted to investigate at all.
We were almost through the border into Mexico before we realised where we were!
Yikes.
Did not stick round and drove the 12 miles to SPI...
going across the bridge was amazing...
quite an engineering feat.
Makes the kerfuffle over the floating bridge in Kelowna look ridiculous!

It was windy and soon to get much windier!
Needed rocks in our pockets to keep us grounded.
Took the doggies out on the gulf or bay.. whatever it is called.
Wind surfers out there delighting in the gales.. not me so much.
The dogs had a great time attempting to make friends with some laughing gulls.
It was more then slightly amusing.
Now please the wee pups were leashed and kept close..
they did not harass the birds at all.
If anything they harassed the pups!

Weather deteriorated as we were there and we were forced to get back in the truck.
 Perfect day for shopping.
They are gearing up for the onslaught of SPRING BREAK collage students.
OMG!!!
Glad they were not there yet...
anyway, got a few touristy things and we decided that because of the weather we could go to a seafood place to eat .
The dogs would be OK in the truck(in the carrier) for a while without harm.
Shrimps were fantastic..
seriously Lee said the best he ever had...
what came with them was throw away stuff for both of us.
The shrimp were fresh and huge and well worth it..
too bad that the places do not offer healthy with the shrimp.
Everything is damn well fried and really deep fried.
Yuck.

Pups had a great day and so did we...
they travel well and it was nice to get away from the park for awhile.
Lee went and got his oil changed at the Dodge dealer in McAllen
and we here parked our butts out on the patio for a couple of hours..

I made a mess of chicken wings for Margarita night..
great way to get rid of  them, too spicy for us.
Enjoyed the company of  couple celebrating their 59Th wedding anniversary!

Have an appointment at" Coats and Tails" to get the pups prettied up before going to meet Gayle and John...
let us hope that this is a better job then the first one!

Enjoyed the call from Darren last night..
