Headed up to Norris Basin to view the geysers..
cloudy grey day with intermittent storms!
We walked about a half a mile to see the geysers and really they are quite gorgeous.. and very "other worldly in appearance". Loved it, and the rain stopped just long enough to let us enjoy it without getting soaked.
I should mention we took the puppies with us, as I was seriously stressed out at leaving them too long crated. They are such good wee travelers and did very well. They slept a lot of the time which allowed us to go where ever we wanted.
So onward.. and when I asked where were going, Lee mentioned Mammoth.
Goody. On the way it poured, and at one point I believe it was sleet! Yuck..
We weaved in and out of weather system after weather system... finding sporadic minutes of lovely light and rather good weather. We took full advantage of this believe you me.
We did see a solitary BIG black bear... it was a bit away from us (most likely trying to get away from the Smart Challenged crowd)! I was lucky enough to grab some shots. Have no idea what they look like as the day has not stopped unfolding.
We got to Mammoth Hot Springs and went directly to the campground.. we have friends there and sure enough both were there. So thank you very much Jan Forseth for your kindness and your compassion towards Laura, as she was really feeling very low when we arrived at your door.
James Hagar it was a delight to see you again and let me tell you sweetie you have really improved your camera skills! LOL
(This is a joke between us, as he is so darn good that it is hard to find any fault)
Learned Steve W had left that morning.. he was having a run of bad situations..
so he went to a more comfortable RV park with electricity and wifi.
This is really important when you are on the road.
Sorry we missed him.
From here we went on a tour of the upper Travertine part of the great attraction in Mammoth.. all the water has gone under ground and moved on.. there is perhaps 1/10 of what used to be there.
The white travertine is turning grey and ever so unattractive. So it is really good we have been and seen it at it's peak of beauty.
Travelled on in pouring rain to a pull off to have a true Canadian tail gate lunch. Thanks o the Howe's, the Horn's had a lovely lunch but were driven back into the respective vehicles due to inclement weather.. that is laughable...Felt like we were on Vancouver Island in the winter!
On the way back we saw baby bison frolicking and mommas being ever so patient. The lads were busy grunting and shoving each other around.. wonderful to see until the really dangerous animals arrived... the tourists.. damn but they are some dumb people out there.. signs do not seem to do it.. ranger talks do not do it.. brochures do not do it.. people getting gored do not do it.. so we moved on.. I have little or no tolerance for stupidity.
Stopped in West Yellowstone for a few supplies and may I say what a great little supermarket. Clean, wonderful produce and deli plus fresh baked bread!
By now it is pouring down rain... no relief in sight.
Back at the homestead , Laura is fast asleep getting ahead of her pain,
Gord has written his blog and edited some pics..
Lee has poured himself his fave drink Bourbon on the rocks..
Then disaster struck...
he spilled his bourbon..
he was so upset..it is Makers Mark!
The really sad thing is it went all over his key board
and his computer has been rendendered USELESS.
Oh no...
I said great" you can have my new computer"(laptop)
with the "sucketh colour"
and
"I will get myself a new computer when we get home".
Ba-da-bing!
So Gord came over and had a few with Lee and life was good.
Then we were entreated to home made chicken soup and fresh bread for supper complete with Hagen Daz Bourbon Praline Pecan ice cream!
Living large.
The rain intensified and we just stayed in and had a good visit.
Pups love Gord and Laura so much...
Tomorrow plans will be determined by weather..
rain..
Shop and IMAX...
No rain,
Jackson Hole and the Tetons..
Come on weather controllers be kind will ya?
